From lead type to desktop publishing

If we look back at our history, it all started over 50 years ago. Joe Kessler, the CEO and founder of the UNAXYS brand, started his career in Switzerland in the 1970s at Thurgauer Volksfreund with Linotype typesetting machines, Heidelberg cylinders and rotary newspaper printing. Soon afterwards, in the 80s, he worked at the Thurgauer Zeitung with Harris phototypesetting systems, which was soon supplemented by Adobe PostScript and desktop publishing with Apple Macintosh Classic Computers. This then triggered the desktop publishing revolution in the early 90s. During this time, Joe also owned a broadcast video and audio studio, as well as a marketing and media bookstore including a small offset printing shop where the monthly "Klipp & Klar" newsletters for the media industry were printed.

From desktop publishing to digital services

In order to better understand computing and digitalization, Joe completed training in electronics, microcomputer technology, programming, personal computing, networks, etc. and then worked in larger companies with UNISYS mainframes, Telcon Wide Area Networks, mid-range systems such as IBM AS/400, Compaq Rack Servers and Novell Netware. Personal computing, hardware and software services, customer support and IT consulting were his other professional activities. This is how Joe realized that his future and professional commitment lay in information processing and that was over 30 years ago.

When the Internet came along in the mid-90s, things got even more exciting. Joe "programmed" his first website in 1995 with the HyperText Markup Language HTML 2. Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer were the well-known web browsers at the time and 2 years later, Google launched its search engine. From then until today, Joe has worked as full-stack developer and webdesigner in the areas of platform economics, content management systems, web hosting business, business & web analytics and online marketing with various teams, white label projects, brands and companies.

The UNAXYS Brand

The UNAXYS brand, family owned and operated, stands for the many technical innovations that Joe has been able to contribute and work on over the past decades. But the Brand also represents technical progress that will accelerate exponentially in the coming years, opening up many new opportunities and creating jobs. First and foremost, the UNAXYS brand always stands for the know-how that helps Entrepreneurs make the right strategic decisions in the digital world that have a positive impact on their business activities.

Joe participates with the UNAXYS brands as a shareholder, strategic partner and Company Circle Lead. He also works in the areas of research, development and as a supervisor.
